WHY CAN'T WOMEN WEAR CUFFLINKS

As mentioned in our introductory post, men have been wearing cufflinks as an indication of distinction and style for centuries and were first introduced to the market. Cufflinks were connected to status. Only the rich and the powerful had access to these sought-after accessories.

Women are expecting more from their wardrobe. Fashion is more adaptable than any other time in history and allows women to be bold, unique and iconic.

Many are now choosing to wear cufflinks to bring a different touch to their looks and set them apart from the rest. And, if that is what your objective is, Purple Luxe is the perfect gateway for your cufflinks. You will find design, quality and refinery.

But, first, what are cufflinks?

Cufflinks are tools for fastening shirt cuffs closed.

They’re an alternative to the buttons that are commonly sewn onto shirt cuffs. The defining feature is that cufflinks are separate accessories: sew it onto the shirt and it’s a button, but if it’s fully removable it’s a cufflink.

Just like buttons, cufflinks come in many shapes, sizes, styles, and materials. They usually offer a little more contrast than a button and are considered a more ornamental option, but they’re not inherently more or less formal.

So, what are the types of cufflinks?

There are many variations of cufflinks, and several other mechanical alternatives as well.

Here are the two (2) of the most common types of cufflinks:

1.  The most common type of cufflinks on the market, Whale Back Cufflinks have a flat head, a straight post, and a “whale tail” that flips completely flat against the post. They are very simple, and their large post and closing mechanism make them easy to use.

2.  Bullet Back Cufflinks are quite similar to whale tail cufflinks, but the post is a hollow frame, and the closing mechanism is a narrow cylinder of metal that nests inside the frame. To lock the links in place, the cylinder is flipped outward, leaving the frame in place as the post.

At Purple Luxe, we currently carry whale back cufflinks.

What are the main reasons women should wear cufflinks?

Cufflinks can give women the "look" while keeping a female edge. Numerous women will really pick a shirt or dress that has a cuff so they can wear cufflinks with to add allure and class. Women who need a more exquisite and refined appearance might wear cufflinks made of pearl with a glamorous white blouse.

But, women should explore cufflinks because:

1.    Cufflinks complement any look.

You can be a completely casual person but create a statement that’s discreet with a pair of cufflinks. These can be worn with classic trousers, pencil skirt or even chic jeans! Cufflinks are truly versatile.

Don’t worry. You can look stunning by wearing cufflinks instead.

2.     As any jewelry, cufflinks make you feel good.

One thing we know for sure, when you look amazing, you feel good. Jewelry should always be worn to make you feel good. Why do you buy anything? To make you feel good. Think of cufflinks as yet another accessory you put on your wrist.

3.     Cufflinks reflect your state of mind.
